More news about: Kids Clothes

Tampa, FL (PRWEB) March 04, 2014

Approximately 70 volunteers from WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: WCG) helped revitalize the homes of two East Tampa women as part of Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County, Inc.s A Brush with Kindness event on March 1. The program assists elderly, disabled and low-income homeowners who are unable to adequately maintain the exterior of their homes.

WellCare employees, family and friends painted, landscaped and performed minor repairs to the homes. The homeowners received additional renovation services from The Centre for Women.

I am so blessed to have been helped by The Centre and now Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County, said Hazel, one of the homeowners. I have a new roof, shower and now my home is beautiful and safe on the outside.

Habitat for Humanity added restoration services to their core homebuilding initiative in order to preserve existing affordable housing, build community connections and strengthen personal dignity and neighborhood pride.

It starts with one or two homes on a street, which in turn becomes the catalyst for the revitalization of an entire neighborhood, said Jackie Buckler, executive director for Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County. We are thankful for WellCares support as we continue in our mission to build lives and build hope.

People often cannot focus on maintaining their health when they are working to meet their basic needs for shelter, food and clothing, said Lisa Iglesias, president of the WellCare Community Foundation. Partnerships with organizations like Habitat for Humanity are central to WellCares commitment to connect our members with the social services they need to live better, healthier lives.

As of January 2014, WellCare serves approximately 404,000 Medicaid plan members, 82,000 Florida Healthy Kids members, 83,000 Medicare Advantage plan members and 55,000 Medicare Prescription Drug Plan members in Florida.

No More Poverty Sponsors Annual 5k/10k Run-Walk to Benefit Kids in Struggling Families

Latest about: Kids Clothes

Long Beach, CA (PRWEB) May 12, 2013

No More Poverty co-founders Dr. Michael Omidi and his brother Julian Omidi are happy to announce their support of Dora Jacildo in the Children Today 5k/10k Run-Walk on Memorial Day weekend in Long Beach. Children Today is a nonprofit organization dedicated to aiding children and their families with early education, healthcare and housing.

Dora Jacildo is the Executive Director of Children Today and has over 17 years of experience in the field of early care and education. Her career began as a preschool teacher, and after leaving the classroom, Dora worked with child care providers while improving the quality of early childhood education in the South Bay. In this capacity, she mentored over 300 providers and assisted with the start of hundreds of family child care businesses.

Children Today is a wonderful organization that not only offers relief to struggling families, but gives them the tools they need to build stable, successful lives, says No More Poverty co-founder Julian Omidi. We are proud to help Dora with fundraising and we hope that this event helps to meet and even exceed her goals for Children Today.

The Children Today 5k/10k fundraiser event will begin registration at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Marina Green Park in Long Beach. Prizes will be awarded to the top female and male athletes in different age divisions, and both runners and spectators will be able to attend the Health and Wellness Expo.

This is the fifth year for this fundraising event. Last year, the event raised more than $ 65,000 for the Children Today Playhouse Programs. This year, the goal is to reach the $ 100,000 mark.

Children Today (http://www.childrentoday.org) opened its first childrens development center in 2000 to provide homeless children a safe and structured environment while their parents were out either working, looking for work or attempting to better their lives. The Children Today Playhouses offer early education, meals and clothing to homeless children aged six weeks to six years. The playhouse environment helps to encourage healthy emotional development, develop social skills and foster creativity. Additionally, Children Today provides families with support and advocacy in basic healthcare services and mental healthcare services, as well as referrals to special education programs and permanent housing assistance.

No More Poverty (http://www.nmp.org) is a not-for-profit charity organization (with a pending 501(c)3 application) founded by brothers Michael Omidi, M.D. and Julian Omidi. The organization seeks to end poverty at home and abroad by supporting the efforts of like-minded charities and agencies. Current efforts are focused on increasing awareness of and donations to charities already doing great work to address poverty and its staggering effects throughout the world. The plan is to expand our activities to include fostering business development and job creation in disenfranchised areas.

Join us in the fight for No More Poverty. Suggestions for worthy partners in the fight for No More Poverty are welcome.
