Susan Harbourt Designs, an Illinois based designer, announces her first ever participation as a jewelry exhibitor in the 2014 Winter Chicago Gift Market running January 18 thru 21. The Chicago Gift Market is held in the Chicago Merchandise Mart and is touted as being the nations longest running gift show.

Her jewelry designs take inspiration from nature, incorporating hammering and texturing with unique surface treatments often featuring her signature ombre effect finish. The result is a classic yet refined style. Susans use of reclaimed materials are carefully chosen to ensure that designs are not only exquisitely beautiful, but also wearable and enduring with an eco-conscience heart. The resulting unique jewelry designs are a playful juxtaposition of contemporary and vintage.

Susan Harbourt has also received national recognition for the Forget-Me-Not necklace in a contest hosted by UncommonGoods for using upcycled materials. She has also had jewelry featured on Pretty Little Liars and The Vampire Diaries as well as on a variety of celebrities on the red carpet.

About: Susan Harbourt, is an engineer by training, an artist by accident, and a self taught metalsmith by choice.

One fateful night, she was helping her husband update the original electrical system in their Edwardian era house. Scattered all over the floor were piles of lovely aged copper. In an absent-minded gesture, she picked up a few scraps and wove them into a bracelet. A spark was ignited and a passion was born in that very moment.

Now Susan loves to experiment with a variety of metals and materials to see where her hammer takes her. There is an unequaled satisfaction in feeling the magic of making metal transform from something you would dismiss as a scrap to an amazing work of art. She primarily works in recycled sterling silver and reclaimed copper making an array of rings, necklaces, bracelets, bookmarks, and sentimental gifts.

Most days Susan can be found working along at her bench with all her tools in action; saw, torch, hammers, anvil, and the list goes on

Susan has created unique collections of jewelry and fashion accessories that combine careful workmanship with unique materials and designs. It is her hope that the wearers of her pieces will find joy in a delightful artistic statement, and also something that enhances their individuality and confidence.

Her award winning work is carried in national catalogs, local galleries, boutiques and online. Please visit http://www.SusanHarbourt.com for Susan Harbourts online flagship store.
